PORCELAIN VENEERS

Porcelain veneers help improve the appearance of a tooth by covering the visible front surface with a custom-made, tooth-colored porcelain overlay to cover stains, small gaps and other aesthetic flaws.

In most cases, we can complete your porcelain veneer treatment in just one visit, and with proper care, your new smile can last many years.

What Are Porcelain Veneers?

A porcelain veneers procedure is performed on teeth that have minor cosmetic imperfections such as chips or cracks, discoloration, misshapen crowns, uneven spacing between teeth, gapped teeth, broken-down enamel and other flaws.

The goal of this type of dental work is to create an attractive, natural-looking result for you.

Veneers are popular because they’re easy to apply, require little preparation time and provide excellent results. They also don’t affect chewing function like some types of restorative treatments do.

They also are strong and durable, which means you can bite and chew with confidence without worrying about chipping off pieces of your restoration.

What Are the Benefits of Porcelain Veneers?

  • Natural Appearance. Porcelain veneers look like tooth enamel.
  • Seamless Fit. Veneers can be matched to the rest of your smile.
  • Gum Tissue Health. As the porcelain used for veneers is similar in makeup to your tooth enamel, your gums can tolerate the material well, which means they can stay healthy.
  • Stain Resistance. Porcelain veneers are stain-resistant, which means your smile will look great for many years to come.
  • Minimal Shaping. Porcelain veneers are bonded right onto your existing natural teeth. As part of the process, some of your enamel is gently removed to accommodate the veneer. In most cases, this means that .5 mm or less of your enamel is removed during the tooth preparation stage.
  • Protection for Your Natural Teeth. Porcelain veneers can help protect your natural tooth enamel, keeping your teeth healthy and strong.
  • Improved Oral Health. Taking care of your new veneers leads to better oral hygiene habits and overall greater oral health.
  • Long-Lasting. Porcelain veneers last a long time with proper dental care, even up to 20 years! We recommend that you brush at least twice per day and floss at least once per day to prevent tooth decay and damage to your veneers and the natural teeth underneath them.

How Do I Know If My Smile Needs Cosmetic Treatment?

If you notice any of these signs, talk to us right away so we can determine if you need porcelain veneers:

  • Discolorations around the gum line
  • Broken/chipped teeth
  • Missing teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Cracks in the teeth
  • Tooth sensitivity
  • Bad breath
  • Poorly aligned teeth
  • Overgrown teeth

What Aesthetic Flaws Can Be Corrected with Composite Veneers?

There are several different reasons why people choose to get veneers. Veneers can:

  • Improve the overall shape of the mouth
  • Cover up stained, cracked or missing teeth
  • Add length or width to a tooth
  • Change the size of a tooth
  • Replace old fillings
  • Repair damage from trauma
  • Restore damaged areas around a filling
  • Treat misaligned teeth

What Is the Process for Porcelain Veneers?

During our initial consultation, we will take impressions of your upper and lower jaws so we can make sure everything fits together properly before starting the process.

Your veneers will be designed in our in-house lab, which means you can be fitted quickly with your new smile.

Next, we use special light-curing resin material to bond the veneers directly onto your existing teeth. This bonding technique allows us to achieve maximum strength while still maintaining flexibility.

Once bonded, we polish the entire area until it looks perfect  and you walk out of our office smiling!

How Do You Care for Porcelain Veneers?

After getting your veneers installed, there are a few things you should keep in mind to ensure long-lasting beauty.

1. Brush twice daily using gentle brushing motions. Brushing after meals helps remove food particles and bacteria that could cause staining.

2. Avoid sticky foods and beverages – these substances tend to stick to the surfaces of your newly repaired teeth and stain over time.

3. Use only water-based products. Oil-based products can leave stains behind.

4. Rinse thoroughly after each meal and brush immediately afterward. The longer food sits on your teeth, the more likely it is to become stained.

5. Don’t forget to floss at least once per day. It removes plaque buildup and prevents gum disease.
