Dental health is an important part of overall wellness in our bodies. The mouth contains many different types of tissues that are all essential to maintaining good oral hygiene. These include gums, teeth, bone, ligaments, muscles, nerves, blood vessels, saliva glands and other structures. When these tissues become damaged or diseased, they need attention to protect your overall health.
We provide patients general dentistry services to keep teeth, gums and other structures of the mouth healthy. These services include:
A complete exam includes taking impressions of your bite; cleaning your teeth with special tools; examining your tongue, cheeks, lips, jawline, neck, head and ears; checking your breath; looking at your eyes; completing a hearing test; and asking you questions about your medical history. This will help us determine if there are any problems we should be aware of before doing anything else. If necessary, we may take additional X-rays or photographs.
An X-ray uses invisible electromagnetic radiation to create images on film or digital sensors. It’s used to detect broken bones, tumors, cysts, cavities, impacted wisdom teeth, abscesses, fractures, foreign objects, tooth decay, gum disease and more. An X-ray machine produces low levels of ionizing radiation, so it’s safe when performed by trained professionals.
This imaging technique allows us to see inside the body without exposing people to harmful doses of radiation. Digital radiographs use computer technology to produce high-quality pictures from standard X-rays taken during routine examinations. They also allow us to view areas not visible using traditional X-rays.
The smile is one of the first things someone notices about you. A beautiful smile makes you look younger, healthier and happier. Cosmetic dentists perform various procedures to improve the appearance of your teeth and/or enhance their function.
What are the different types of cosmetic dental procedures?
If you have missing teeth, dental implants can replace them permanently. Dental implants consist of two parts: a titanium post that goes into the jawbone and a small metal ball called the abutment that connects to the top of each implant. Once placed, the implants act like natural roots holding artificial replacement teeth firmly in place. Patients who receive dental implants often experience less discomfort than those receiving removable prosthetics because implants don’t require daily maintenance.
If you need a crown for an existing filling or a bridge, our dentist will make a mold of your upper or lower teeth. Then the dentist will send this impression to a laboratory, where technicians will cast a custom-made crown or bridge. The process takes anywhere from two weeks to three months depending upon how many restorative materials are needed. After the final product has been completed, it’s carefully fitted over your teeth and cemented in place.
We offer both partial and full dentures. Partial dentures cover only some of your teeth, while full dentures completely restore all of your lost teeth. We recommend replacing multiple missing teeth with either a fixed bridge or a set of dentures. Fixed bridges provide stability and support as well as improved chewing ability. Full dentures give patients back their original smiles but come with certain limitations such as speech difficulties and increased risk of infection.
A thin layer of porcelain material is bonded onto the front surface of your teeth to change their color, shape, size, spacing, etc. Veneers are usually recommended if you want to correct minor flaws in your smile. One of our dentists may suggest veneers after examining your mouth thoroughly. If necessary, we’ll take impressions of your teeth and then prepare the surfaces before applying the veneer — which we can make right here in our in-house laboratory!
