Do your teeth line up together, or are they slightly crooked and don’t fit together very easily? Don’t worry or feel self-conscious; very few people have perfect teeth. The good news is that a straight and beautiful smile is achievable with orthodontic treatment from Restore Modern Dentistry.
What Is Orthodontics?
Orthodontics is a dental specialty that addresses unbalanced bites and dental irregularities using braces or oral appliances.
But Wait, There’s More
The benefit of orthodontic treatment is not just straight teeth and aesthetic improvement to your smile. Orthodontics can help protect your oral and dental health because crooked teeth can be harder to clean, which can mean tooth decay or periodontal disease.
Also, teeth that don’t fit correctly can make it harder to chew and eat; cause neck, back and shoulder pain; lead to headaches and migraines; and increase your risk of developing temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders.
Crooked teeth and unbalanced bites can also cause breathing issues, particularly obstructive sleep apnea.
How Do Orthodontic Treatments Work?
Orthodontic treatments can include braces, appliances or clear aligners. These treatments can retrain muscles and gradually move teeth and change how your jaws have grown (or direct how they grow in children).
Not Just for Children or Teens
Orthodontic treatments are not just for kids! Many adults are seeking orthodontic treatment to get the smile they always wanted. You’re never too old for orthodontic treatment. That should give you something to smile about!
Orthodontic Treatments We Offer
While there are a few different orthodontic treatment approaches and many different types of brace available on the market, at Restore Modern Dentistry, we offer developmental, Controlled Arch and Refined orthodontics. Here’s a little more about all three orthodontic options:
The most common cause of crowded teeth is actually jaws that are too small. Think about it: When your jaws don’t grow to their full potential, there’s not enough room for your teeth to move into their genetically intended position.
Another consequence of interrupted jaw growth is what is known as a “mid-face” deficiency, or mid-face hypoplasia. In this situation, the upper jaw, cheekbones and eye sockets do not grow as much as the rest of the face, and as a result, the eyes may seem large, bulgy or “bug-eyed.” When the mid-face region does not fully develop, the upper teeth do not meet the lower teeth or do not meet them well, which results in an underbite.
Developmental orthodontics addresses the mid-face region by helping the jaws reach their fullest potential, allowing room for all the teeth. Developmental orthodontics also means no need for extractions or retractions. With the bite corrected, the muscles and ligaments surrounding the TMJs become balanced and relaxed, which means less chance of developing a jaw disorder.
Development orthodontics can also improve the upper airway, which means better breathing for you! It also means sleep breathing disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea improve or go away.
And finally, it means a beautiful — and healthy — smile for you!
Controlled Arch Orthodontics
While full-mouth braces are often considered the standard of orthodontic care and the path to straight teeth and a perfect bite, conventional braces aren’t always the answer.
In fact, for many people — especially adults — they’re something to be avoided. This is because the metal brackets and wires of conventional orthodontics are often uncomfortable and bulky and treatment is very time-consuming with frequent trips to the orthodontist for adjustments. Not to mention, traditional braces are not exactly discreet.
We offer patients Controlled Arch Orthodontics, a system of braces that makes necessary tooth movements with respect to your facial characteristics and physiological facial structure. Unlike conventional braces, Controlled Arch Orthodontics doesn’t make these moves in a narrow arch (curve of your jaw). Generally, Controlled Arch Orthodontic treatment follows development orthodontic treatment, which has expanded the face’s structure and jaw to accommodate all your teeth.
Do you just want to straighten a few teeth, but you don’t want braces, and your bite is balanced? If you’re satisfied with your smile for the most part but just want to make a few small corrections, we can help with our Refined Orthodontic treatment. This program is similar to other clear aligner therapy and is a system of custom-fit and highly personalized aligner trays that make small and subtle changes that will leave you with a significant impact — a smile you love!
The best part: Our orthodontic patients report that no one even knows they’re wearing them!
